HOW CAN YOU HELP?

MPP for Parkdale-High Park, 

Bhutila Karpoche and MPP for Beaches-East York, Mary-Margaret McMahon are advocating for transparency and accountability from the MNRF for their choice in a military-style raid over normal processes such as a site inspection, as well as scientific evidence to support their decision to execute all of the raccoons they seized.

Other MPPs will continue to table this petition at Legislature, as we continue to have more petitions signed.

We petition the 

Legislative Assembly of Ontario:

• to explain why Ministry staff conducted such a raid, if, as reported, there had been no site inspections for 18 months;
• provide full disclosure of all medical testing conducted on the 87 raccoons and explain the improbability of vaccinated pre-release juveniles, housed outdoors, all contracting the same 2014 wild-strain distemper. If such vaccine is so ineffective, why has such been a recommended standard of the International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council since 2013.

The petition has four essential requests, and sadly, the 2nd request for a Safe Return is no longer viable, but all other parts of this petition are valid and warranted, so with over 8000 copies signed as of Feb 1st, we continue to request your signature:

1. Immediate Transparency: to demand to know where the raccoons are and how they are faring after their abrupt removal from Mally's.

2. Safe Return: to implore the Ministry to return these raccoons to Mally's, or another Wildlife Custodian where they may re-establish their way to rehabilitation and a chance at returning to the wild.

3. Investigation: to call for a thorough and impartial investigation into the actions of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF), ensuring that the truth comes to light.

4. Accountability: to demand that those responsible for these actions are held accountable, and to ensure the ethical treatment of our wildlife will always be a priority.

protest signs & information handouts.
